Requirements

Written report

Each competing team is required to produce a written annual report on their projects. The reports are limited to a total of four printed pages on A4 size paper (or two pages front and back). Additional pages in the form of a cover or a back page are not allowed. Annual reports are distributed to the judges during the seven-minute set-up period described below. Teams will be notified in advance of the number of annual reports they will need to bring with them to the competition.

Presentation

Each competing team will have a thirty-seven minute time block for their verbal/audio/visual presentation. After the university adviser and SIFE team have been formally introduced, this time block is divided as follows:

Set-up - 7 Minutes

The team will have seven minutes to distribute copies of their written annual report to the judges and to prepare/arrange the room for their presentation (set up equipment, check lighting, etc.).

Live presentation - 24 minutes

The team will then have twenty-four minutes to make a live audio-visual presentation to the judges. Teams are not obliged to use the entire presentation time allotment; however, they will be required to stop the presentation if it exceeds twenty-four minutes.

Question and answer period - 5 minutes

At the conclusion of the team's live presentation, judges have a five-minute period in which to ask questions of the presenting team. Any of the twenty-four minute presentation time block not used by the team may be added to the period for question and answer. For example, if a team's live presentation lasts twenty minutes, the remaining four minutes would be added to the scheduled five-minute period, making a total of nine minutes available for question and answer. Judges are not permitted to question the team beyond their designated time allotment; however, the team may be excused early if the judges conclude their questions before their time expires.

Tear-down - 1 minute

At the end of the question and answer period, the team has one minute to return the room to its original condition and to leave.

Anyone may help the team with the setting up or operation of audiovisual equipment. However, only student team members may participate in the presentation or answer questions from the judges.

No team may set up any equipment in the presentation room before they have been formally introduced.

No documentation, materials, gifts or other items may be given to any judges, other than the team's annual report.

Room set-up

SIFE will provide the following equipment in each presentation room:

  1. One screen
  2. One extension cord
  3. LCD projector
  4. Sound equipment

SIFE does not normally provide other equipment, such as lap-tops, slide projectors, monitors, TVs, VCRs, etc. If students are unable to provide their own lap-top, SIFE The Netherlands should be made aware of this and appropriate arrangements may then be made.

Back-up is highly recommended. Students are advised to email their presentation and their report to the University Coordinator at least three days before the competition and, in addition, to bring a copy on a CD.

No practice time is available in the competition room.
