About SIFE Groningen University

In the past, our relatively small team, currently 9 members, has already finished several projects and has helped many people help themselves. This year, we want to focus on improving our projects; hopefully broadening both scale and scope, and increasing their quality. This year we will be working on the following four projects:

Return of the Mummies: This project aims to help young mother in the province of Groningen to integrate into the labour market. Some of them are still in school, others just finished and are relatively new to the labour market. If they decide to have a child, their whole life changes. We developed a format with several workshops on different theses like CV building and job application, but we also developed an inspiration game, with the help of our business advisor, Paul Roper, for them to discover who they are an what they want in life and in a future job.

Take Your Chance: In this project we try to create economic and social opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers in the province of Groningen, by e.g. teaching them about the Dutch business culture, make them (more) financially literate, and giving them some basic CV and job application trainings.

Personal Financial Management: Two years ago, because of the increasing number of young people in the Netherlands getting into debts, we organized workshops about financial management for high school students in Groningen. This year, we decided to re-start this project.

WanaZiwi: This international project aims at providing economic opportunities for a group of deaf women in the Dodoma district in Tanzania. With this project we want these women to become financially independent, by helping them set up their own business, and teaching them the skills to run it.
