Mission:
Setting up innovative social projects through which students develop practical skills and a pro-active attitude in addition to their theoretical knowledge.
Through SIFE VU students learn how to translate their growing awareness of the world around them in applicable solution driven competences.
By addressing defined societal needs, our projects integrate knowledge and resources in exactly those places in society where this is needed.
This can be at the Vrije Universiteit, in our own city of Amsterdam, as well as in the Netherlands as a whole, Europe and other places in the world.
Our projects are based on at least one of the following 5 educational topics, which, in accordance with the global SIFE heritage, are essential elements for practicing social entrepreneurship:
- Market Economics
- Success Skills
- Entrepreneurship
- Financial Literacy
- Business Ethics
Addressing these topics ensure that our targeted audiences will gain more insight in the subjects and the global SIFE heritage.
These topics provide SIFE VU projects with a strong foundation. Through the use of a Business Advisory Board -existing of business and university leaders- SIFE VU receives professional guidance and feedback on their projects and personal development.
Competition History:
SIFE VU participated three times in the National Competion and won the spirit of SIFE Award twice in a row in 2008 and 2009.
Projects:
bigmamma - Innovative and interactive platform connecting and empowering youth efforts towards a more sustainable environment.
The 4-leaf clover project - The aim of the project is to help HIV positive widows in Zimbabwe to become self reliant through engaging in business so that they can better take care of themselves and their children.
StudentenCASE – Encouraging and supporting the development of new and current student initiatives in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial skills in Amsterdam.
Alleviate poverty by educating widowed women with children in Nagaland India on how to run a business by chicken farming in an environmentally friendly way.
